Transitions... Not just a pretty way to connect yoga poses.
Conscious yoga transitions are an amazing way to enhance your physical practice and teaching.
The first benefit is that of expanding your awareness, you can think of it as a moving body scan. It creates a sense of embodied present awareness in every inch of your body, beyond creating familiar shapes. As you step your leg back into lunge, can you tap into the sense of extending your upper body in the opposite direction?
The second benefit is the ability to tap into your active range of motion, which helps us control all the flexibility we build through asana. For example, you can guide your leg into figure four by actively rotating the leg, before placing it on your opposite thigh. Or extend your leg forward before grabbing hold of it in extended hand to big toe pose. You might notice that there is a gap between active and passive range of motion, which we can help decrease through active transitions and mobility training.
I love guiding flow as I believe in teaching embodied movement and anatomical savviness alongside asana.
